It was a busy night at Medalta Saturday, with two pianos playing non-stop for nearly four hours.

The night marked the third annual Duel It event, which is held to raise money for kids’ cancer research.

“A few years ago David (Dale) and I decided to do something,” said co-organizer Corrie Dale. “We saw that we were in the position to make a difference for kids out there battling with this terrible disease and that is how Duel It came to be.”

The night featured an auction, the dueling pianos and more entertainment, all in hopes of raising as much money as possible before David sets out for his crossCanada bike ride in August.

“We want to raise at least $25,000 before we leave,” David said. “Duel It is a big part of our fundraising and we’re glad to see that we sold out of tickets for the event.”

Last year’s event raised approximately $13,000 and Corrie said this amount was also the goal for this year.

After counting up the totals from the night, Corrie said they’ve exceeded that amount.

Corrie said the night is all about helping those who may be fighting cancer.

“The money we try to raise every year goes towards kids and their families too,” she said. “We have had some close friends have small children with cancer and we’ve seen what they have to go through and we just wanted to try and make a difference some how.”

The couple said the event will occur again next year, but the end goal is to never need to hold another Duel It event.

“No matter how successful this night may be in terms of money raised, we want to see an end to cancer and to one day not need to hold this type of thing.”
