Praxis celebrates 25 years boosting science in southeast Alberta
Praxis is holding a special 25th anniversary party today at Medicine Hat College, and everyone is invited.
“Praxis is celebrating our 25th anniversary of working with educators here in southeast Alberta,” explains Praxis senior scientific consultant Patty Rooks. “We are bringing the Tornado Hunters, specifically Chris Chittick, to Medicine Hat. And throughout the day, schools from all over southeast Alberta will be coming to see him for about hourlong presentations.
“Hundreds of kids are going to be able to take part in this talk on extreme weather, blizzards, tornadoes, hurricanes and waterspouts. Everything Chris has been able to partake in during the last 15 years of chasing weather in his career.”
The special “Tornado Hunters” vehicle will also be on hand for photo ops.
Later in the evening will be the community reception.
“We are so excited to have this celebration,” Rooks says. “We couldn’t have done it without the educators, our funders, supporters and our volunteers. That’s what the whole day is about celebrating.
“Moving into the evening, we are having our volunteer appreciation reception, and we are handing out awards to students who entered our science, engineering and math contest ... We need to be scientifically literate as citizens, and the best way to do that is to start educating our children.”
The event is open to the public and admission is by donation, but Praxis asks those wishing to attend to consider sending an RSVP, if possible. There will only be seating for 300 at the reception. Call Patty Rooks at 403527-5365 for more information.
