One week to go in Classic Loser 7

With just one week remaining in this year’s Classic Loser competition, contestants are gearing up for the home stretch before judges will decide who takes home the grand prize.

Though there is just seven days left, trainer Todd Schneider says he does not want contestants to make a mad dash for the finish.

“What we want to see all through this competition is consistency,” he said. “The people who are consistently losing a few pounds are the people we can see are making the best progress, and are not afraid to hit the scale each week.”

The Classic Loser 7 contestants will be judged on multiple criteria, including total weight loss by percentage, blood pressure and heart rate comparing them pre- and post-contest, and by reading an essay on how they will apply what they learned during the Classic Loser contest to change their lives.

Schneider says the essay component can be the deciding factor between finishing in first or second place.

“With weight and blood pressure, the numbers are the numbers,” he said. “The essay can be a swing factor because each contestant needs to show us how they will apply what they have learned to their lives — that can be a tough thing to do.”

At the end of the day, Schneider says he hopes he has made an impact on the contestants’ lives.

“As a trainer, I just want to give these people the tools to continue to live a healthy life,” he said. “We want people to train as smart as they can, and that’s where the results will come — I know a lot of the contestants this year have gotten the message we’ve been putting out there.”

New name

Before this year’s contest started, Schneider and the rest of the organizers set out to rename the weight-loss competition, and though they went under the Classic Loser name this year, Schneider says next year it will don a new name.

“We’re looking to break away from the word ‘loser,’” he said. “We’re still waiting on a few things and we can’t say what it will be yet, but it will definitely be something new. Next year will be the eighth year — we’re not starting over from scratch.”
