Local women rally for International Female Ride Day
Saturday morning was all about the ladies in Medicine Hat.
A large group of female motorcyclists met at Badlands Harley Davidson Saturday morning to celebrate International Female Ride Day, which organizer Heather McCaig said is all about bringing people together.
“We’ve been pushing pretty hard to get as many women and their bikes out here as possible,” she said. “This is a really fun day where us women can spend the day out in the sun together — it’s great seeing so many ladies out with their bikes.”
The event was held by the Ladies of Harley group which operates locally and McCaig said the group is open to those who may be interested.
“We hold many events like this to have fun and create camaraderie among the women in Medicine Hat,” she said. “Events like International Female Ride Day can be very empowering for women to be out in a large group and traveling as one.”
McCaig says she would like to see more lady motorcyclists in the city and its surrounding area.
“I think the belief at this point in time is that motorcycling is more male-dominant,” she said. “That is definitely changing though, as we are seeing more and more women coming out to events like these and more women out on the road.”
The motorcycle is a place of pure fun and enjoyment says McCaig, and it serves as a place for riders to forget the stresses of the world for a short period of time.
“The motorcycle is a place where you can’t work, you have to be in the moment and not worrying about things like work,” she said. “Being out on the road, having the sun shining on you, it’s a great feeling and I do believe it is good for you and it can be a real stress reliever.”
