Tough road trip continues for Sun Devils

-

The Medicine Hat Sun Devils fell to 3-6 on the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League Tier 2 junior B season this weekend with a pair of road losses, 14-10 to the Sylvan Lake Yettis on Saturday and 11-6 to the Red Deer Renegades Sunday.

The losses push the Sun Devils’ losing streak to four games, though they will return to Medicine Hat for a threegame homestand starting May 27 against the Lethbridge Barracudas.

Medicine Hat’s Aidan McLean had a standout game for the Sun Devils on Saturday, netting a hat trick and adding a helper, but it wasn’t enough to help push his team back into the win column.

Tegan Rogel also managed four points in the loss with a goal and three assists. But their efforts will all overshadowed by Sylvan Lake’s Hunter Thudlum. The Yettis forward notched six goals on the afternoon, including four consecutive markers in a five-goal second period and went on to add an assist in the third.

Things didn’t get any easier the next day in Red Deer.

While Medicine Hat’s goaltending was strong, the offence was unable to gather any sustained momentum and the Sun Devils settled for another loss.

McLean and Tanner Dynes both had two goals for the Sun Devils in the loss, while Noah Weimer and Tegan Rogel rounded out the afternoon with individual markers.

The weekend leaves Medicine Hat (3-6) sitting seventh in the RMLL South Conference, four points ahead of Sylvan Lake (1-4) and six points in front of the winless Strathmore Venom (0-6) and Locoka Locos (0-6).
