Police arrest three after spotting them in stolen vehicle from Winnipeg

-

Medicine Hat police arrested three people in connection to stolen property.

Officers were on patrol on June 6 at 5:30 p.m., when they noticed a suspicious vehicle located in the area of 12 Street NW. Both the licence plate and vehicle had been reported stolen from Winnipeg.

When the officer attempted to arrest the three occupants of the vehicle, one was taken into custody, while the other two fled on foot.

A short pursuit occurred, with another one of the suspects taken into custody a short time later. The third suspect was arrested after being successfully tracked by a K-9 unit dog to the South Saskatchewan River.

Two adult men and one adult woman are currently in custody for charges of possessing stolen property.

Fee change

Medicine Hat police are reducing fees related to obtaining background checks.

As of June 12, the fee for Police Information Checks submitted through the online process will drop from $54 to $43 each.

Police introduced a new online application process in Oct. 2016 for PICs, so people do not need to attend the MHPS station in person to apply. In addition to the MHPS fee, a $9.95 processing/authentication fee is charged by the vendor, who provides the online processing service.

A reduced fee of $43 per PIC for in-person applications will also be introduced for persons under the age of 21, as the identity verification process used for PICs uses credit history — and those under the age of 21 often don’t have a reliable credit history. As those under 21 can’t use the online feature, they can get the lower price completing the application in person at the police station. Volunteer rates will remain unchanged at $15 per PIC.
