Dogs in the Hat put your paws up for a DOG PARTY
Dog lovers rejoice, Medicine Hat’s first ever dog-centred party is happening June 17 at Kin Coulee Park.
The event has been named Dogs in the Hat, and it encourages everyone to dress up with their dogs in the Dogs in the Hat theme, or in the theme of Canada’s 150th birthday.
“Medicine Hat really is dog crazy,” said one of the organizers Mike Steiner. “We wanted to hold an event that really focused on the dogs, where everyone could bring their dogs to the park and to have a really good time.”
The event will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the park with a large amount of events scheduled for the day says Steiner.
“We’ve tried to plan this so we could have something for everyone,” he said. “We’ve got pet stores coming out, educational talks, the police dogs will be out and we’ll have events involving the dogs — it’s a really well-rounded event.”
Steiner says he hopes to see at least 1,000 people and their dogs at the event, but says non-dog owners are more than welcome to attend.
“Even if people just want to come and get their dog fix for the day, come on down,” he said. “People can come at any time and leave at any time, and all of the events are completely free for everyone.”
Steiner and the other organizers are asking for people to keep their animals on a leash at all times during the event.
