Retiring Prairie Rose School Division superintendent Brian Andjelic was in a pensive mood Tuesday as he participated in his last public school board meeting.

“It’s another day — and there have been a number in the last three months — of this is my last this or this is my last that ... It is my last public school board meeting today, and it is with mixed emotions I reflect on that,” he said.

Andjelic said he is still working on post-retirement plans when his term ends in July, but he does have a few ideas.

“Retirement is looking to be a big question mark right now, because I have only three real plans. One is I plan to play guitar. I plan to spend more time with family, and I plan to travel.”

Over his last remaining weeks, Andjelic’s focus will be on taking it all in and ensuring a successful transition for the division’s new superintendent Roger Clarke. Clarke will be coming to PRSD from the Fort Vermillion School Division, where he is currently superintendent of schools.

Andjelic said he is looking forward to this next, less stressful chapter of his life.

“I am going to greatly miss the people here in the division a lot, but at the same time I am looking forward to a different life, and spending more quality time with my family.”

Andjelic’s teaching career began 38 years ago at Irvine School. He spent 21 years there as a teacher and viceprincipal. After a brief sojourn as vice-principal at Eagle Butte High, Andjelic later returned to Irvine as school principal for an additional two years.

Known for being articulate, nurturing, thoughtful and precise, Andjelic joined the division office in 2001 as assistant superintendent before being promoted to deputy superintendent. He was named superintendent of schools in the division in 2013. He announced his impending retirement at the beginning of the 2016/17 school year.
