Eleven Bulldogs qualify for major meet
Solid results have earned a bunch of Medicine Hat Bulldogs athletes spots at a major track and field competition later next month.
At the CALTAF Classic in Calgary last week — which doubled as trials for the Tri-Prov Western Canadian Championships in Winnipeg July 14-16 — 11 of 18 Bulldogs who competed made Team Alberta.
Lewis Benoy led the group by also winning three medals at the meet. He was second in long jump and third in both high and triple jump among the junior boys division.
Also medaling and earning a spot at the TriProv meet was Elic Ayomanor. Ayomanor was third in midget boys long jump (he was also fifth in 100 and 300 metres and sixth in the 200).
Other Bulldogs who made the Alberta team were Trevor Mickey (best finish was fifth in youth boys 2,000 metre steeplechase), Maddie KaneRissling (best event was sixth in youth girls triple jump), Morgan Hale (best was fourth in youth girls 800 metres), Ayla Wikjord (best was fifth in midget girls 2,000 metre), Novalee Pender (best was fourth in midget girls long jump), Renae Ryan (best was 15th in youth girls 100 metre), Kiana Farrel (best was eighth in midget girls 200 metre hurdles) and Jane Canadine (best was 19th in youth girls 200 metre). Gage Reinhart was named as an alternate, his best event being a ninth-place finish in 400 metre hurdles.
Not everybody was eligible for or picked for the team. But there were certainly other great results from the meet. Reece Reinhart was second in youth hammer throw (he was also fifth in shot put and 11th in javelin). Jayel Dovichak was second out of 40 bantam girls in a multi event competition, then third in another multi event the next day. Denise Reinhart was second in masters women’s 100 metre.
Other Bulldogs (with top result in parenthesis) were Kamryn Dovichak (11th in peewee girls multi event), Jacob Kreuger (sixth in youth boys 3,000 metre), Faith Scrivener (17th in midget girls shot put) and Hailee Meshen (20th in midget girls 800 metre).
