Addressing the complicated political situation in Alberta, the Alberta Together organization is holding a public meeting in Medicine Hat Wednesday from 6:30-9:30 p.m. in the Cellar room at the Beveridge Landmark Events.

Executive director Katherine O'Neill will address the gathering at 7:30 p.m.

“A lot of people are really tired of the really divisive political landscape,” said O’Neill. “We are just trying to come and offer options, what their true political options are right now.”

The purpose is to make Albertans aware of a “centrist alternative,” said Alberta Party Greg Clark, who will also be at the event following a day of meetings in Medicine Hat.

“Anyone who is looking for a moderate, modern political party is absolutely welcome,” said Clark.

The group met last week in Red Deer with media reporting about 300 in attendance.

“The response was very positive,” said Clark who feels people were able to personally identify with what was being said. “It was very encouraging that people felt there was an option.”

The right-wing politically have been saying only they care about the economy and the leftwing saying they care about people, said Clark.

“I care about both. The Alberta Party cares about both and Albertans care passionately about both. The good news is we can have both,” said Clark. “We can have a strong economy and good fiscal discipline and we can have compassion for our neighbours.”

O’Neill says Alberta Together is a non-partisan organization and although it is working closely with the Alberta Party, it is not officially affiliated with it. O’Neill stepped down as the Alberta PC Party president in early April.

“They are in the middle of the political spectrum so they are one of the options,” said O’Neill. “We are more about bringing people into a room and really showing them what is possible, where they can go.”

Attending the event is free but all guests are asked to RSVP on the Alberta Together website, see link below.
