One dead following collision between vehicle and cattle near Coaldale

One woman from the Lethbridge area is dead following a vehicle collision on Canada Day with cattle.

Coaldale RCMP and Lethbridge Fire/EMS responded to the vehicle collision on Range Road 212 near Township Road 92 on July 1 at 11:50 p.m.

A collision had occurred between a white Ford Mustang and numerous cattle on the road. The Mustang was headed northbound, when in the darkness there was a collision with several cows that had wandered onto the paid road service.

There were five occupants in the vehicle, three — an adult and two youths — sustained injuries and were transporte­d to Chinook Regional Hospital for treatmen. Another female adult was taken to Calgary hospital with serious neck injuries. The driver, a 33-year-old woman from the Lethbridge area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for approximat­ely three hours for clean up, and extricatin­g the mustang from the west ditch. A total of seven cattle were killed, with some severely injured cows having to be humanely dispatched by police.

Strathmore

Some 80 fraud-related charges have been laid by the RCMP against a 42-year-old woman from Wheatland County. Police began their investigat­ion at the end of May, when a Wheatland Country resident reported they had been a victim of fraud, and lost thousands of dollars.

Following an investigat­ion, police allege that Jane Elizabeth Moore used a fraudulent bank letter to convince several victims to give her money. She has been charged with two counts of uttering threats, two counts of fraud over $5,000, and 78 counts of fraud under $5,000. Police say Moore has also used the following names/alias’ in the past: Jane Seaman, Elizabeth Seaman, Jane Norman, Jane Plimmer, JJ O’Conner, and Jane Smith.

Piikani First Nation

Piikani RCMP are asking for the public's assistance in locating the person or persons responsibl­e for shooting at and damaging the Weather Dancer wind turbine on the Piikani First Nation. Sometime between April 18 and May 31, the Weather Dancer wind turbine was shot with multiple bullets from a high powered rifle. A technician discovered the bullet holes in the transforme­r and turbinell when servicing the wind turbine on June 12. Costs to repair the damages are estimated at $25,000.

Hinton

One person is dead after a serious motor vehicle collision on Canada Day near Hinton.

Hinton RCMP and emergency services responded to the collision at 1:50 a.m., at the intersecti­on of Highway 16 and Highway 40 south.

The collision occurred between a pickup truck travelling northbound on Highway 40 south and a semi-tractor trailer travelling eastbound on Highway 16. The collision occurred at the intersecti­on of both highways.

The driver and lone occupant of the pickup truck succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.The driver of the semitracto­r trailer was transporte­d to a local hospital with non-life threatenin­g injuries.

An RCMP collision analyst, out of Edmonton, is investigat­ing the cause of the collision at this time.
