Wendy Scott charged in housebreak

-

A Medicine Hat woman who had murder charges against her stayed in January, faces a fresh charge of housebreaking with intent to commit a crime.

“On July 19, the Medicine Hat Police Service received a complaint from a multidwelling residence in the area of the 1100 block of First Street SW,” said MHPS Insp. Brent Secondiak. “The victim at the time said two people had come into her suite and attempted to collect some money that was allegedly owed to somebody else”.

It appears that it was drugrelated, said Secondiak.

“As a result of the investigation we have charged two persons with break and enter with intent,” he said.

Charged is Wendy Joy Scott, who also goes by the last name Herman. Also charged is Kristy Miller.

Scott was arrested following the homicide of Casey Armstrong over the Victoria Day long weekend in 2011. Scott was convicted of second-degree murder and was sentenced in November 2012 to life in prison with no eligibility for parole for 10 years. However, the Alberta Court of Appeal ordered a retrial in Oct. 2015.

This retrial never went ahead, as a Court of Queen’s Bench justice granted the Crown’s request for a stay of proceedings on Jan. 13 of this year. This meant the Crown has one year to reinitiate charges against Scott, or they will be automatically withdrawn.

A similar stay of proceedings occurred with Scott’s coaccused, Connie Oakes, on April 2016.

Both Scott and Miller were held before a Justice of the Peace, and both were released with on conditions.
