Ye Olde Jar Bar under pressure
Cypress County CAO Doug Henderson informed council of several complaints of excessive noise and over other unspecified matters about the Ye Olde Jar Bar in Veinerville from some of its neighbours. The county bylaw officer will be looking into these matters.
The Ye Olde Jar Bar, owned by the Dan and Ina Visser, is considered one of the preeminent, small-scale performance venues in the province of Alberta, and frequently hosts folk music artists from across Canada and around the world.
New SE Alberta travel map and tourism guide previewed
Cypress County council was given a preview of a new southeast Alberta regional travel map being released by several local municipalities, including Cypress County. On one side the map showcases several famous local tourist attractions with the other side pinpoints them on a full-size map. Each municipality involved in funding the map — Medicine Hat, Redcliff, Bow Island, 40-Mile County, Cypress County and Cypress Hills Park — all got to choose a few destinations each to put on the map. Medicine Hat featured the Gas City Campground, Echo Dale Regional Park and Mr. Burnside Mountain Bike Trail. Cypress County featured Cavan Lake Campground, the Eagle Butte Road scenic drive and Sandy Point Park. The maps will be available at all tourist centres in the area and at most municipal offices.
Paid on-call service for county firefighters starting in September
According to Cypress County, more than 30 county firefighters will begin receiving paycheques when they go on active duty in September, with more to come in the months ahead as members return the necessary tax forms.
Firefighters can also opt out if they wish to continue purely as volunteers.
