Jones, Hicks blast 2 homers in Tigers’ 13-2 win over Royals

The Detroit Tigers had to make an unexpected pitching change just minutes into Tuesday night's game against the Kansas City Royals.

But that didn't phase the Tigers, who got two home runs apiece from JaCoby Jones and John Hicks in a 13-2 victory. Detroit hit six homers in all, knocking Kansas City starter Jason Vargas out after just two innings.

The Tigers set a seasonhigh for home runs and snapped a five-game losing streak.

Max Moroff and David Freese delivered RBI singles off Carl Edwards Jr. in the eighth inning as the Pirates rallied past the Chicago Cubs 4-3 on Tuesday night for their fourth straight victory.

PHILLIES 9, METS 1

Ben Lively homered and drove in four runs off Mets ace Jacob deGrom, and also pitched seven strong innings to lead the Philadelph­ia Phillies over New York.
