#Dominicstrong event will raise money for Alberta Children’s Hospital
Dominic Rooney played the mini-golf course at Hooplas Family Entertainment Centre once in his short life. This Sunday, from 5-7 p.m., a special tournament will take place there in his honour.
The #Dominicstrong charity event at Hooplas is in its third year but this is the first time it’s been organized as a fun tournament, with all proceeds going to the Alberta Children’s Hospital.
“Dom was such a happy kid and I know he’d have loved something like this,” says Sean Rooney, Dominic’s dad. “As a parent of a child who’s passed, doing charity work is such a rewarding and fun way to continue their legacy. We’re really looking forward to Sunday.”
Two years after Dominic’s death and almost four years to the day he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, #Dominicstrongrelated efforts have raised roughly a quartermillion dollars for various charities. Several more are coming up, including an online auction Sept. 29-Oct. 1 and a 25-hour video and board game marathon Nov. 4-5 in Medicine Hat.
Sunday’s event at Hooplas is sponsor by Schwab and Co. Chartered Accountants, allowing the full registration costs of $70 for a fourperson team or $18 for an individual to be donated to the hospital, where hundreds of kids from Medicine Hat need to go to every year for specialized care.
Participants will play for prizes, get a free barbecue dinner and Kona Ice, and even have some special holes including one featuring Medicine Hat College Rattlers golfers.
Registration closes for the tournament on Thursday. Visit Hooplas at 1072 7th St. SW or register online at hooplas.ca.
