Important to stay abreast of advancing science

-

Re: “SD76 rejects petition for last time,” Aug. 15 On June 21, a spokesman for the Concerned Parents of SD76 declared in the News that “we’re not trying to impose our particular (Christian) values on all the other children…,” and that “a fiveyear-old is incapable of deciding his or her gender identity.”

Unfortunately, they impose their Christian values on their own children who may later in life experience intense, cruel and unnecessary emotional agony if they must reconcile their natural sexual identity with the one their parents erroneously believe is “normal.” It is much to the credit of secular schools, whose grip on reality is much firmer than anything religious, that they recognize these conflicts and make efforts to comfort those

Ticked Off

With a person spreading lies/rumours on the newspaper’s Facebook page.

Tickled Pink

To let the public know that the drivers weren’t the ones who came up with the new transit routes.

Ticked Off

With people rolling through stop signs. It is a very bad habit and it will eventually cost you, and it seems to be contagious.

Tickled Pink

The city will end support for shrubs as we cannot even afford to support bus service on evenings and weekends in many parts of the city.

Ticked Off

That city council members and city administration won’t take the transit challenge. Coun. Pearson said that he couldn’t because he couldn’t get home on the bus after 6:30 p.m. and it was too far to walk. Obviously that would apply to a lot of the rest of us too.

Ticked Off

As long as we are putting berms all over this town for every eventuality and possibility, why not one that should have gone up 60 years ago: a noise and stench barrier for the Canadian Pacific Railway corridor.

Ticked Off

The city gives pale lip service to recycled rubber sidewalks that have clearly demonstrated their

benefits, but Public Works continues to pour 5- or 6-inch thick concrete sidewalks instead.

Ticked Off

That the travelling coin and silver people arriving in town on Sept. 10 are here to take advantage of people again. They only pay a portion of what should be paid and their ad is misleading.

Ticked Off

Our city council has zero empathy with people dependent on city transit as their primary means of transportation. They attempt to deflect blame by claiming they didn’t design the routes or service hours, but their budget reduction demanded the change.

Ticked Off

That it’s more important for the city to talk about making new parking lots downtown and spending money on event centres but cannot find the funds to maintain our green spaces.

Tickled Pink

To hear Alberta WR/PC parties are in debt and overstaffed. Reminder to wannabe leaders — pointing a finger there are four pointing back at you. Karma is sweet.

Ticked Off

Why should the city transit run empty? We have to understand the city isn’t going to make everyone happy. Why should the taxpayers be responsible?

Tickled Pink

from the LBGT community who undergo this psychological torment.

Neuroscience, thanks in large part to functional magnetic resonance imaging, has made giant strides in the last few years revealing how the brain operates and shedding light on the relationship between the structure of the brain and the formation of personality. Of great interest is the mounting and compelling evidence that free will is largely an illusion. No one “decides” to be gay.

Inhabitants of planet Earth have a moral obligation to stay abreast of advancing science. Not only our happiness but our continued existence as a species may well depend on it.

I and many others would be tickled pink if the powers that be at City Hall would make savings to the city coffers in places that are obvious to many: The glut of staff, especially among various levels of management, is no secret.

Ticked Off

The mayor, council and transit management do not understand the meaning of special transit. This service is doing a bad job now and they want to add a shuttle service to it? Special Transit is overworked. Now they want to add more?
