Bell notches lone goal for Rattlers in win over Kodiaks

-

Brittany Klein did all she could to keep the Medicine Hat College Rattlers at bay on Saturday at Lethbridge College.

The Kodiaks goalkeeper stopped a dozen attempts on goal in the weekend’s Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference women’s soccer match — but the Rattlers only needed one.

Attacking midfielder Jordyn Bell put the only goal of the match past Klein 11 minutes into the game. While Klein kept the Kodiaks in the game, Medicine Hat’s Kassidy Suberlak stopped all five shots she faced to lead the Rattlers to a 1-0 victory and a 4-1-1 record on the season.

Bell leads the Rattlers with four goals on the season — good enough for 10th in the ACAC. Rattlers midfielder Meagan Clarke, who assisted on Bell’s goal, sits in a tie for third in assists with three.

With 13 points in the standings, the Rattlers sit tied for second with the Olds College Broncos — five points behind the South Division leading SAIT Trojans.

The men’s squad didn’t fare so well in Lethbridge this weekend.

After defeating the Kodiaks with a 3-2 stoppage time goal earlier in the month, the Rattlers dropped a narrow 2-1 contest with the season series shifting back down Highway 3.

Kodiaks midfielder Brayden Jetten put his team ahead at the half with his second goal of the season in the 29th minute.

While the Rattlers pushed back in the second half with Ethan Hudec’s first of the year, Lethbridge’s Pete Ntignee stole back the lead in the 68th minute and the Kodiaks held on for the victory.

Rattlers goalkeeper Joao Batista stopped 7-of-9 on the day, but the Rattlers were unable to find an equalizer down the stretch.

The loss drops MHC to 3-2-1 on the season, one point behind the Kodiaks for second in the ACAC South Division.

The Rattlers head to Red Deer on Oct. 14 to face the Kings and Queens.
