Rattlers arrive at golf nationals

- Trevor Moore

Medicine Hat College Rattlers golf coach Trevor Moore will be publishing a daily diary from his team’s experiences at the Canadian Collegiate Athletics Association golf championships in Ontario. Day 1 — Saturday Travel day is always an exhausting one; although not a fun transition, it certainly does set us up to adjust to the new time zone quickly.

We left the college this morning at 4:30am, after flights, groceries and a quick team supper, we are finally all checked in and relaxing at our hotel. It is only 8:30pm local time but safe to say we will all sleep well tonight.

Tomorrow morning we get our first look at the course with a 90-minute on-site practice at 9am. We are currently getting quite a bit of rain here and are under a weather advisory with high winds and rain tomorrow.

The weather will not impact our prep as it is all about setting routines and adjusting to the new time more than anything.

Nothing but positive reviews of the host course. We all want to see it for ourselves as Royal Ashburn is supposed to be a real treat. Day 2 — Sunday Today we had our first look at the golf course; Royal Ashburn lives up to all expectations…amazing facility.

After practice the team took the train in to Toronto. We did a couple a fun touristy things, shopped, had a few laughs and simply enjoyed our day together.

Tomorrow the formalities begin. At roughly 12-hours long, opening day is always exhausting .

It starts with team photos, moves in to player meetings, coaches meetings, warm-up, lunch, followed by a full practice round and finishes with a banquet.

We are excited to get things rolling and get back to work on the course.
