Gio steals overtime win from Penguins
CALGARY Mark Giordano scored at 2:19 of overtime and Mike Smith made 43 saves as the Calgary Flames beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 on Thursday night.
Giordano fired a perfect shot over the glove of Tristan Jarry off a set-up at the top of the faceoff circle by Matthew Tkachuk.
Sean Monahan also scored for Calgary (7-6-0). Three games into a season-long seven-game homestand, the Flames are 2-10. The New Jersey Devils visit the Scotiabank Saddledome are on Sunday.
Kris Letang scored for Pittsburgh (8-5-2). Jarry made 32 saves in his first start of the season. The Penguins wrap up their season-long five-game road trip on Saturday in Vancouver. So far, they are 1-2-1.

ST. LOUIS — Michal Neuvirth made 33 saves and Brandon Manning broke a scoreless tie with a secondperiod goal to lead the Philadelphia Flyers over the St. Louis Blues.
Claude Giroux added an empty-net goal with 5.4 seconds left in Philadelphia's first shutout of the season.

WASHINGTON — Lars Eller scored two goals, including the winner, and had an assist to Washington beat New York.
Eller was arguably the best player on the ice, drawing two penalties and committing one as part of an eventful outing. The Danish centre's play helped Washington escape despite being outshot 38-19 and 16-2 in the third period.

BOSTON — Sean Kuraly scored his first career goal to snap a tie midway through the third period, sending Boston over Vegas.
Kuraly got to a rebound during a scrum in front of the Vegas net after a shot by Torey Krug with 10:07 left, restoring Boston's lead and helping the Bruins to avoid being swept by the expansion Golden Knights in their inaugural season.

WINNIPEG, Manitoba — Mark Scheifele had a hat trick, Patrik Laine scored his first goal in five games and Winnipeg beat Dallas to extend its points streak to six games.
