Pub B&E accused now has various charges piling up

A man charged following a break and enter at a pub in Crescent Height made his first court appearance Tuesday, with these newest charges piling on to already existing drug trafficking ones.

Jason Claude Tremblay appeared before court from the Medicine Hat Remand Centre, with defence counsel requesting an adjournment to Nov. 30 for the charges of break and enter to commit, three counts of breaching his bail conditions, and possessing break-in tools.

Not-guilty pleas were also entered Tuesday by Tremblay for drug trafficking charges stemming from Medicine Hat police’s “Operation Suppression” — a month-long project in September focusing on street-level drug trafficking that led to the arrest of numerous people.

Tremblay was charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine, proceeds of crime and breach of probation.

These charges were adjourned to Nov. 14 to set a date of a preliminary hearing.

Also adjourned to Nov. 30 was a charge for possession for the purpose of trafficking stemming from an arrest in 2014 when police seized more than 800 fentanyl pills.

Tremblay was originally found guilty of simple possession but in June the Alberta Court of Appeal ordered a new trial. Defence counsel is currently in the process of setting up the new trial.

Tremblay was out on $7,500 cash bail at the time of his most recent arrest for the break and enter.

Police report that on Nov. 5, they were called at 4:20 a.m. to a report of a break and enter in progress at the After-Work Oasis. Cellphone video provided by witnesses ultimately leading police to a local hotel where they took the suspect into custody.
