Local swimmers thrive at Marlin Invitation­al

It was a great weekend for local swimmers at the annual Marlin Marquee Invitation­al.

There were nine teams totaling over 100 swimmers, some from as far away as Edmonton and Elk Valley, BC.

Medicine Hat Waves

Aaron Kruger won six gold medals and has now achieved three qualifying times for Alberta Championsh­ips in March.

Quirina Thompson won two, one silver and one bronze medal and achieved a qualifying time for Alberta Cup in December.

Anna Nozewski won three medals, and she’s already qualified for Alberta Cup & Alberta Championsh­ips.

Jaiden Riddell won three gold medals. He is already qualified for Alberta Cup & Alberta Championsh­ips.

Jaivyn Barabe won three silver medals and achieved a second qualifying time for Alberta Championsh­ips in March.

Jericho Raneses won two bronze medals and achieved a second qualifying time for Alberta Provincial­s in February.

Trinity Shilka won one gold medal. She is already qualified for Alberta Provincial­s in February.

Karsten Senft won one gold medal, and achieved a second qualifying time for Alberta Provincial­s in February.

Alberta Marlin Aquatic Club

Taigan Walker achieved her qualifying time to attend Alberta Provincial­s in February.

Twelve-year-old Ashton Scholly, who got his times in both the 50 freestyle and 200 individual medley, qualified for provincial qualifiers and twelve-year-old Kaitlin Skrove got hers qualifier in the 50-metre breast stroke and the 100-metre breast stroke.

The team won a total of 72 medals. Elliot Valk finished the event with five gold, Emily Schlenker closed out her weekend with five gold and a silver, Munro Maxwell with four gold and a silver, Parker Maxwell with three gold and two silver, Delrae Vetter with a gold, three silver and two bronze, Ashton Scholly with a gold, three silver and two bronze and Berlin Mastel with two gold, a silver and a bronze.

Other medal winners included Abby Begin, Elizabeth Bowey, Kristin Hollingwor­th, Madison Hunt, Samantha Hunt, Nick Jones, Hunter Skrove, Brandt Swaren, Derian Swaren, and Norah Valk.
