Rattlers basketball teams enter holiday break on a high

-

The Medicine Hat Rattlers basketball teams both closed out the first half of the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference season on a high note with a pair of wins Saturday at Briercrest College.

The women’s squad kicked off the action with a rousing 66-58 comeback victory over the Clippers, led by a 24point performance from forward Kennedy Werre.

After entering the fourth quarter trailing by five, the Rattlers rallied for a game-high 22 points in the frame while limiting Briercrest to nine to steal away the victory.

The win shakes off a 70-68 overtime loss to the SAIT Trojans on Nov. 10 and puts the Rattlers at 7-1 on the ACAC season entering the holiday break.

The men’s squad followed it up with an 84-65 win over the Clippers later that evening, putting the Rattlers at 6-2 on the ACAC season.

Guard Jon Sappleton led the Rattlers with 23 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists in the win, while Aaron Cameron added 20 points and Stephen Jones had 10 points and nine boards.

The Rattlers are off until Jan. 12, when they take on the Broncos in Olds.

Volleyball squads fall to Clippers

The Medicine Hat Rattlers volleyball squads were unable to close out the fall portion of their season with victories earlier Saturday afternoon at Briercrest.

The women’s squad dropped a three-set contest to the Clippers (25-18, 25-11, 25-12), dropping them to 4-8 on the year, while the men’s squad met a similar fate in a 25-22, 25-18, 25-16 loss, leaving them sitting 9-3 on the year — two points behind SAIT for first place in the ACAC South.

The Rattlers return to the court Jan. 5 to take on the Trojans at SAIT.
