Habs win fourth straight

DETROIT Now on their longest winning streak of the season, the Montreal Canadiens have recovered from their terrible start.

Brendan Gallagher scored twice, and his Montreal teammates added three goals in the second period on the way to a 6-3 victory over the struggling Detroit Red Wings on Thursday night.

The Canadiens have won four straight and are in the third place in the Atlantic Division — a quick turnaround for a team that started the season 1-6-1.

FLAMES 3, COYOTES 0

CALGARY — Mark Jankowski scored twice and Mike Smith stopped all 28 shots he faced as the Calgary Flames blanked the Arizona Coyotes.

Smith picked up his second shutout of the season and 35th of his career. The 35-yearold was making his first start against his former team since being acquired by Calgary in a June trade.

MAPLE LEAFS 6, OILERS 4

EDMONTON — William Nylander had a goal and two assists as the Toronto Maple Leafs got past the Edmonton Oilers.

Auston Matthews, Dominic Moore, Matt Martin, Patrick Marleau and Nazem Kadri also scored for the Maple Leafs (17-9-1). Frederik Andersen stopped 41 shots for the win in net

Marleau was credited with the winner despite Edmonton defenceman Kris Russell blasting the puck into his own net while trying to clear it late in the third period.

CANUCKS 5, PREDATORS 3

NASHVILLE — Brock Boeser had two goals and an assist, Daniel Sedin surpassed 1,000 career points and the Vancouver Canucks beat the Nashville Predators.

WILD 4, GOLDEN KNIGHTS 2

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Eric Staal scored the goahead goal with 7:55 left and tacked on an empty-netter to give the Minnesota Wild a win over the Vegas Golden Knights.
