Park Meadows Estates lights up

The residents of Park Meadows Estates are once again bringing joy to the world, as their massive Christmas lights display has lit up for the season.

“There’s a lot of lights,” said light committee chairman Art Ausmus with a laugh on how the number of lights seems to grow each year as neighbours in the 126-residence community decorate their homes and adjoining park area with Christmas displays, then invite the public to drop on by.

And once again donations are being collected through cash boxes at the park, with funds raised going towards the Medicine Hat and District’s brown bag lunch program.

“One-hundred per cent goes to the cause,” said Ausmus, with $1 being enough to provide one lunch to a child in need.

Depending on the weather, the annual light display has raised anywhere from $6,000$7,500 for the local program, he said.

The display is now in its 21st year, and draws people in from all over, he said. Alongside the lights, speakers pipe in Christmas music during the evening.

“We’ve had people here from Lethbridge already, there’s U.S. dollars coming in, so there’s people from all over,” said Ausmus. “It really gets busy if the weather’s nice, it’s just a constant flow of people.”

The display is generally kept up until the New Year and visitors are welcome to come through from 5-10 p.m. daily to see the displays.

For safety visitors are asked to stay on the pathways so electrical cords and other tripping hazards are avoided.
