Jets dump Canucks

-

WINNIPEG Mathieu Perreault scored two goals and added one assist to help the Winnipeg Jets halt a three-game losing streak with a 5-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Monday.

The win was the Jets’ seventh straight victory at home. They have points in their last 11 games (10-0-1) at Bell MTS Place.

The Canucks have lost three straight in regulation for the first time this season.

Defencemen Dmitry Kulikov and Josh Morrissey and forward Nikolaj Ehlers also scored for Winnipeg (188-5). Ehlers’ 14th of the season was on the power play and gave him goals in three straight games.

Brock Boeser scored his team-leading 16th goal for the Canucks. He also extended his goal-scoring streak to three games.

Connor Hellebuyck made 25 saves for Winnipeg.

PANTHERS 2, RED WINGS 1 (OT)

Mike Matheson scored his first goal of the season and the Florida Panthers won in overtime for the first time this season, taking a 2-1 decision from the Detroit Red Wings on Monday night.

AVS 2, PENGUINS 1

Colorado defenceman Mark Barberio was a healthy scratch last week against Buffalo. He made a huge play Monday night against the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions.

Barberio scored in the third period and Jonathan Bernier stopped 39 shots, helping the Avalanche to a 21 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

STARS 2, RANGERS 1 (SO)

The Dallas Stars put themselves in position for a big win on Monday night. It just took them a while to finish off the New York Rangers, thanks to Ondrej Pavelec.

Jason Spezza scored in the shootout, and the Stars snapped a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory over the Rangers.

ISLANDERS 3, CAPITALS 1

Hours after getting a vote of confidence from his coach, Jaroslav Halak came through with one of his best games of the season.

Halak made 31 saves, and the New York Islanders beat the Washington Capitals 3-1 on Monday night to snap a three-game winless streak.
