Smith, Stewart combine for 15 points in Hounds’ win over Braves

Shane Smith and Dawson Stewart had a night they won’t soon forget on Saturday at Hussar Arena.

The pair of peewee AA Medicine Hat Hounds combined for 15 points in a 9-3 win over the Wheatland Braves, with Smith notching four goals and four assists and Stewart following it up with four more markers and three helpers.

Deegan Kinniburgh rounded out the scoring with a goal of his own while adding four helpers in the win.

Goaltender Silas Currie took the victory on 11 saves, pushing the Hounds to 17-01 on the South Central Alberta Hockey League season.

Wheatland’s Matthew Docvichak stopped 38 in the loss, dropping the Braves to 13-11-0.

The win follows up a 2-2 tie to the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday at the Moose Recreation Centre. Smith and Dawson Seitz scored for Medicine Hat, while Layne Loomer and Ty Obara added markers for Lethbridge.

Midget Hounds mount comeback

The Medicine Hat Hounds midget AA hockey team rallied back from a two-goal deficit to steal a 3-2 victory from the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday night at the Kinplex.

While the Hurricanes jumped to a 2-0 lead after a scoreless first with secondperi­od goals from Connor Zdan and TJ Johnson, the Hounds found their scoring touch in the final frame.

Brett Gray kicked off the offence for Medicine Hat just over a minute into the period before scoring again 10 minutes later to knot up a 2-2 game, then Levi Schlosser completed the comeback with five minutes left in regulation.

All five goals in the game came on the power play.

Hat goaltender Aidan Kruger locked up the victory after stopping 20 shots, pushing the Hounds to 9-9-0 on the South Central Alberta Hockey League season.

Bantam Hounds fall to Bisons

The Medicine Hat Hounds bantam squad dropped a 5-1 contest to the Foothills Bisons on Saturday at Bob Snodgrass Recreation Centre.

Ethan McIntyre led the Bisons to the victory with two goals and an assist while McCallum Bakken and Lucas Gareau both added a goal and a helper.

Medicine Hat’s Matthew MacPherson broke Kaiden Fulton’s bid for a shutout with five minutes left in regulation, scoring with assists from Luke Renschler and Jody Rath.

Fulton took the win after stopping 20 shots, while Medicine Hat’s Bodee Weiss settled for a 51-save loss.

The Hounds now sit 3-15-1 on the South Central Alberta Hockey League season.

Bantam Tigers fall in Lethbridge

The South East Athletic Club Tigers fell to 6-13-3 on the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League season with a 5-0 loss to the Lethbridge Golden Hawks last Wednesday at the Nicolas Sheridan Ice Centre.

Brady Tallman and Colby Garner led the Golden Hawks with a goal and an assist each, while Erick Roest locked up the win on 16 saves.

Tigers goaltender Marek Andres turned aside 42 chances before settling for the loss.
