Bail was revoked Thursday for a 28year-old Medicine Hat man facing charges for allegedly trafficking methamphetamine.

Brennan Trevor Osborne appeared by closed-circuit TV from the Medicine Hat Remand Centre, with the judge agreeing with the Crown that bail should not be granted following Osborne’s most recent arrest, and that bail be revoked for charges stemming back to October.

Osborne was arrested in October following a traffic stop by police that ultimately led to a charge of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possessing proceeds of crime, three counts of simple possession and a breach. He was released on $1,000 bail.

He was arrested again on Dec. 19 and charged with two counts of possessing proceeds of crime, possession for the purpose of trafficking, three counts of simple possession and three breaches of his release condition.

His next court appearance is set for Feb. 13.

New trial

A new trial for a Medicine Hat man over fentanyl trafficking is moving forward, with defence counsel setting a pretrial conference for Jan. 25.

Counsel for 41-year-old Jason Claude Tremblay said the court can expect the next step to be taken at the accused’s next court appearance, now set for Jan. 30.

Tremblay was arrested in 2014 when police seized more than 800 fentanyl pills. He was originally found guilty of simple possession, but this was appealed by the Crown and in June 2017 the Alberta Court of Appeal ordered a new trial.

While out on bail, Tremblay was arrested alongside several others in September again by police during “operation suppression” initiative — and was charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine, proceeds of crime and breach of probation. Not-guilty pleas have been entered to these charges.

Tremblay also faces charges stemming from an alleged break and enter at a pub in Crescent Heights on Nov. 5, 2017. On Thursday, counsel elected for these charges to be heard before a Court of Queen’s Bench judge and jury, with a preliminary hearing. These charges will be before the court again on Jan. 30 for the dates to be set down.
