The Medicine Hat College Rattlers women’s basketball team fought through a rough third quarter to beat the Lethbridge College Kodiaks Friday at the Snakepit.

The Rattlers held a comfortable 45-31 lead heading into the second half, but Lethbridge put up 25 points in the third, while Medicine Hat scored just 13, bringing the Kodiaks back into the game.

“They’re a good team and we always need to be our best against them,” said head coach Clayton Nielsen. “I thought we played a good game, but our third quarters have been really up and down this year. The third quarter could have been the death of us, and I’m happy that the girls came out and played even harder in the fourth and got the win.”

The Rattlers went on to win 82-75 to improve to 10-3 on the season.

Kendell Kuntz and Kennedy Werre led the way for Medicine Hat with 22 and 18 points. Werre also added a team-high 13 rebounds for the Rattlers. Nielsen says he wants to see the team play a full 40 minutes going forward. “I think it’s just about finding consistency in our game. We play them tomorrow (Saturday) and we need to play a full game,” he said. The men’s team also hosted the Kodiaks, and came away with a 107101 loss Friday evening. Both teams will head to Lethbridge today to take on the Kodiaks at Lethbridge College.

Volleyball

The Rattlers volleyball teams were at Ambrose University Friday, before coming home Saturday to host the same squad.

Medicine Hat’s women lost the contest by a 3-0 score (2125, 29-27, 25-16), falling to a record of 5-14 on the year.

Grace Porter had a teamhigh 10 kills, while Shaya Suchy led the way with 14 digs.
