Bantams get preview of Xtreme series

-

Playoffs start tonight for the South East Athletic Club Tigers, against a team they didn’t have much luck against in a series preview over the weekend.

The bantam AAA Tigers fell 6-1 at Airdrie Saturday, Tanner Gold getting the lone marker in defeat while Brendan Olson made 29 saves.

Both Craig Armstrong and Ethan Tinevez had two goals and an assist for Airdrie.

On Sunday the Tigers fell 3-2 at home to Lethbridge. Mason Mowat and Tyler Miller scored, with Marek Andres stopping 31 pucks.

South East had already clinched a playoff spot and finished the regular season 11-22-3. Airdrie, 25-5-6, finished first in their division and now plays the Tigers in a firstround series.

They’re at Airdrie tonight, then host the Xtreme at 5:45 p.m. Thursday at Hockey Hounds, and if necessary go back to Airdrie Saturday in the best-ofthree series.

This is the first time since 2013 the Tigers have made the post-season.

Midget 15’s

The South East Athletic Club Tigers midget 15-year-old hockey team ended its home schedule with a loss.

The Tigers fell 5-2 to the Calgary Stampeders Saturday, their 10th loss in a row overall.

Cam Hall had SEAC’s first goal and Kagen Rude tied the score at 2-2 with 11:58 remaining, but it didn’t hold up.

Nate Hoffman made 25 saves for the Tigers, who play two more regular season games on the road prior to playoffs in March.

Midget AA

Continuing their lateseason surge, the Can Pak Environmental midget AA Hounds earned wins over Lethbridge and Okotoks.

On Friday they beat Lethbridge 5-2, with firstperiod goals from Brett Gray, Ethan Boutkan and Aiden Gleisner the difference. Brayden Anderson had another and Gleisner potted his second to put the game out of reach in the third period. Aidran Kruger only needed to make 14 saves in the win.

On Sunday the Hounds beat Okotoks 3-1, again getting the jump on their opposition with first-frame goals from Zachery Dovichak, Braden LaRochelle and Ryley Manz.

Dawsen Savage came one second away from a shutout, stopping 26 pucks.

Bantam AA

The Medicine Hat bantam AA Hounds earned one point from the weekend.

On Saturday they fell 4-1 to Wheatland on home ice, Jack Vose scoring the only Hounds goal and Kaiden Morin making 24 stops.

Against Foothills Sunday they had a 4-1 lead with two goals from Reece Barton and singles from Matthew MacPherson and Tyler Broesky, but couldn’t hang on and had to settle for a 44 tie. Barton, Broesky and Foothills’ Karsen Dixon were all assessed misconducts after the final whistle. Bodee Weiss made 44 saves for Medicine Hat.

Atom

The atom Tier 1 Hounds White team has earned a spot at provincials.

The Hounds beat Cochrane 9-5 Saturday, rebounding from a 4-2 loss in the first of the two-game total goals series Feb. 9.

Ryler Straarup had a hat trick, Kieran Wyrostok and Colson Wereley each scored twice while Tate Bowal and Easton Kurpjuweit added goals in the decisive win.

Unbeaten in the regular season, they’re now set to start provincials in Calgary March 16.
