Midget AA Hounds win one, lose one on weekend

-

One of the two teams above the Can Pak Environmental Hounds in the standings is also hosting league playoffs in a couple weeks, so the Medicine Hat midget AA squad would like nothing better than to beat them on the road. On Saturday, it wasn’t to be. At Lethbridge, the Hurricane Hounds got an early lead and won 4-2.

Aiden Gleisner and Ryley Manz had Medicine Hat’s goals, but they came after the visitors trailed 3-0. An empty-netter sealed the deal.

Aidan Kruger made 28 saves in the Hat net. Lethbridge hosts playdowns March 8-11.

On Sunday at the Kinplex, the Hounds doubled up Taber 6-3. Levi Schlosser and Dax Wandler each had a pair of goals with Gleisner and Carson Dingwall netting the others. Manz and Brandon Kasdorf had two assists apiece and Dawsen Savage made 25 saves in net.

Medicine Hat hosts Wheatland — the other team they’re chasing in the standings — Friday, 7:15 p.m. at the Kinplex, then concludes their regular season Sunday at home, 2 p.m. against Foothills.

Midget 15’s

One South East Athletic Club Tigers team remains standing, guaranteed a spot in their playoffs next month.

With the bantam AAA’s knocked out of their post-season last week, the midget 15-year-old Tigers played their second-last regular season game Sunday in Calgary.

SEAC lost 4-3 to the Rangers, getting goals from Cam Hall, Connor Miller and Caleb Irvine. Irvine’s marker came with 26 seconds to go, but the Tigers couldn’t get the equalizer as well.

They’ll play in Calgary again this Saturday, then prepare for the Sutter South Cup March 811 in Okotoks. As a last-place team they won’t have a chance to advance to provincials, instead playing for a consolation crown.

Bantam AA

Playoffs might be coming at the perfect time for the bantam AA Hounds, who won both their games on the weekend and are now above the .500 mark in 2018.

On the road to finish the regular season, the Hounds beat the Central Alberta Selects 4-2 Saturday, then applied the same score to Sunday’s game in Red Deer.

Kaden Rath had both the winning and insurance goals Saturday, with Evan Gebhart and Tyler Broesky scoring as well. Kaiden Morin was key to the win with 30 saves as his team was outshot 3216.

It was Medicine Hat leading the offence in Sunday’s win, outshooting Red Deer Ramada Inn 60-17 but needing Broesky’s second of the day in the third period for some breathing room. Matthew MacPherson had the other two. Taiga Hernandez had three assists.

Medicine Hat hosts league playoffs starting March 8.

Peewee AA

Two games are all that separate Medicine Hat’s peewee AA Hounds from an unbeaten regular season.

The Hounds beat Chestermere 13-3 Saturday and Taber 14-3 Sunday, now with one weekend left before playoffs.

Dawson Stewart and Josh Van Mulligen had five points each Saturday, while Stewart and Caleb Garrecht recorded hat tricks on home ice.

On the road Sunday, Stewart had another six points, Dawson Seitz and Shane Smith each had five and Hayden King picked up four assists.
