Fun the goal at Firehall’s ‘Cinderella’ pantomime
Medicine Hat’s Firehall Theatre is getting ready to put on a classic.
Running for six dates in April, Cinderella is a new rendition of a well-known play.
“This is the classic ‘Cinderella,’” said director Peter Leeming. “It’s the story we all know, the story of a servant girl who ends up becoming a princess by the end. The play really is about the journey and how it all happens.”
The play is being housed at Medicine Hat High School’s Karen Cunningham Theatre, and Leeming says it is a show for everyone.
“It’s very family-friendly,” he said. “We want people to come out and to participate. We want people to boo the villains and cheer for the good guys. It’ll all end happily ever after, and we want people to come out and enjoy themselves.”
The show will run for two and a half hours with a short intermission in the middle.
“‘Cinderella’ is a really well-known pantomime,” said Leeming. “Everyone knows it and everyone likes it. It’s very user-friendly, and we know that we’ll have a lot of fun with it.”
Leeming has directed a few shows over the year, and he says he enjoys the process from start to finish.
“Seeing ideas come to life is really fun,” he said. “It’s great to see choreographers and costume makers do their work, it’s great to see our set come to life and it’s fun to see the show really take shape as we get more and more practice in.”
