Winners advanced to zones

McLean and Driediger weren’t the only Talons to top their event Thursday. Eagle Butte’s Triston Duscherer and Lexie Waldbauer won the junior mixed doubles gold medal after defeating McCoy’s Kennedy Lannigan and Justin Bacelonia in the final, Talons William Baird and Jaeber Friesen defeated McCoy’s Landon Grudecki and Evan Gunn to win the junior boys doubles and Ashton Morse topped Aiden Heller to win gold in an all-Talons junior boys singles final.

McCoy’s Madison Shank took gold in the junior girls singles event with a win over Hat High’s Arriane Lozada.

In the intermedia­te division, Eagle Butte’s Sebastian Wissler defeated Hat High’s Thomas Douglas to take boys singles gold and Jordyn Fournier of McCoy won the girls singles event by defeating Hat High’s Jaliayh Kochie in the final. Hat High’s Richard Tabuada and Yunfan Yang won the intermedia­te boys doubles event by defeating fellow Mohawks Sam Nygaard and Tony Nguyen in the final. McCoy Colts Amber Gallup and Jaiden Perrt defeated Chelsea Bates and Nour Baradi to take the girls doubles crown and Mohawks Alexa Alino and VJ Ganizares won the mixed doubles.

Hat High swept a thinly contested senior division, with James Ngyuen winning boys singles gold on a victory over Eagle Butte’s Ty Jans and Emily Hudson taking girls singles gold. Mohawks Dan Ivan Gamao and Kyle Clugston won gold in the senior boys doubles event, Hat High’s Jaslin Ghotra and Azin Dolatabadi clinched the girls doubles title and Phoebe Gamao and Irvin Rouvic Magwali won the senior mixed doubles event.

All gold and silver medal winners advance to zones next Friday in Lethbridge.
