Hat native Mark Sakamoto returns for author talk after ‘Canada Reads’ success

-

Medicine Hat native Mark Sakamoto has recently been enjoying some much-deserved time in the spotlight. Fresh off his CBC Canada Reads win, the author also recently announced that his book is in development as a four-part series by CBC and Don Carmody Television.

Even with all this success, Sakamoto is making time to come back to his hometown for an author talk presented by the Medicine Hat Public Library (MHPL).

“We are so thrilled that Mark has agreed to come back to Medicine Hat to talk about his book and his experience with Canada Reads,” said Ken Feser, MHPL’s chief librarian.

The author talk was arranged between Sakamoto and the Public Library when his book made it on the CBC Canada Read’s longlist, back in January.

“We knew his talk would be popular, regardless if he won or not. After he won, we quickly realized that the 152-seat theatre in the basement of our library would not be big enough,” said Feser.

To accommodate the crowd, the Library has moved the author talk to the Medicine Hat College Eresman Theatre, where Sakamoto will talk about his book and his Canada Reads experience on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Copies of his book, ‘Forgiveness: A Gift From My Grandparents’ will be available for sale at the event. Sakamoto will be signing copies following his talk.
