Swimmers make their marks

-

Medicine Hat’s swimming clubs were in Lethbridge this past weekend and, as usual, came home with plenty of strong finishes.

Parker Maxwell, Elliot Valk and Delrae Vetter of the Alberta Marlin Aquatic Club each had five gold medals, Medicine Hat Waves athlete Jaiden Riddell had six and there were a total of 67 swimmers in the pool between the two groups.

For the Marlins, the 13year-old Maxwell added a silver, as did the 11-year-old Valk while Vetter, 13, had a bronze as her sixth medal of the spring meet. Who beat Maxwell in his one secondplace race? Teammate Ashton Scholly, who had a gold and five silver.

Other impressive results included Maria Pachan, 11, with a provincial qualifying time in the 200 metre breaststroke as part of a two-gold, two-silver, one-bronze weekend. Teammate Jocelyn Macphail had a gold, three silver and two bronze. Nineyear-old Eleanor Nevin had two silver and two bronze.

Waves top medallists included Kage Senft, 9, with four gold and two silver and Anna Nozewski, 18, with three gold and a bronze. The Waves announced that 11-year-old Johnathan Marshall got enough qualifying times to be headed to Southern Alberta Provincials at the Family Leisure Centre June 15-17, while both clubs will send lots of members to the AMAC-hosted Landsberg Automotive Group Spring Invitational, May 12-13 at the FLC.
