Head to the hills for some outdoor activity and celebrate this long weekend.

If water recreation is what you are after you can rent boats, paddle boards, canoes, and kayaks complete with safety equipment such as life jackets, in the Cypress Hills.

“Everything that you’d need, we have here for you,” said Katy McFadyen, coordinator at the visitor centre at Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park.

Anyone under the age of 16 needs to be accompanied by an adult if they want to enjoy water sports, she said.

There are amazing trails to enjoy in the hills whether you are on foot or on the seat of a bicycle. If you don’t have your own bike there are mountain bikes to rent complete with required safety helmets.

The Frisbee golf course and disc golf courses will be open along with an 18hole mini-putt. You can bring your own equipment or use what is available on site.

The cost of these activities and renting equipment can range from $5 to $30 depending on the activities, said McFadyen.

The reserved campgrounds are fully booked but on Friday there were still many places available in the first-come first-served camping site area.

If travelling out of town is not for you, the Medicine Hat Farmer’s Market, celebrating its 21st season this year, is open on Saturday. It takes place in the Cypress Centre at the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede grounds, 2055 – 21 Avenue S.E.

The City says there are no special events are planned for the Family Leisure Centre or our other parks and recreation facilities this weekend.
