It’s hard to make any sense of some arguments

- Mo Cranker

Everyone has opinions and everyone has a right to that opinion.

One opinion that almost any sensible person can agree is wrong is the pro-life argument.

It’s an interesting argument to dissect, simply because there isn’t much to it. Taking life of any kind is bad — but why? On the abortion side... If a teen couple accidentally get pregnant, why should they be forced to raise a child they don’t want, and don’t have the means to care for?

Would pro-lifers really, honestly, rather see an unwanted, likely poorly-cared for baby to be forced into this world with parents that can’t afford a child?

Pro-lifers say they advocate for all life, which is cool, but where are they when thousands of unwanted children are thrown into foster homes because their parents don’t want them, or can’t care for them?

Why is it that pro-lifers are cool with overcrowded care systems, just so we can not take life?

We have enough people on this planet as is.

Another few questions for pro-lifers is — Do you eat meat? Wear leather? Eat eggs?

Where does the “all life is precious” thought process stop? Is taking a baby cow’s life less important than ending a pregnancy in the early stages?

The cow has been fully-birthed, but an unborn baby has not been.

What about dogs and cats? Why are we so quick to snip their junk off? All life is precious, no?

Why can’t we have a bunch of unwanted cats and dogs running around the street? They’re alive, aren’t they? Just spitballing here. On the assisted suicide side...

If we can all agree that we, as peoplekind, have the right to life — then why do we not have the right to death?

Anyone with any sort of compassion can agree that dying on one’s own terms is far more dignified compared to slowly whittling away into a human beanbag chair in a hospital somewhere, doped up on a bizarre amount of medications, just because a few people can’t let go.

Why is it that we give our pets more dignified deaths than we give our loved ones? If a dog is suffering, we put him/her down. If a human is suffering, we’ll do just about anything in our power, physically and financially just to keep them technically alive, just to say they’re alive.

Assisted suicide for young people would be stupid. We can likely all agree that letting some angsty teens end their lives because they’re feeling pressure would be stupid. But if someone has lived a full life, a happy life, a fulfilled life, then why not let them pick the time and place they turn out the lights?

It’s safe to say pro-life arguments just make zero sense whatsoever.

“If we can all agree that we, as peoplekind, have the right to life — then why do we not have the right to death?”
