Five people were taken to hospital after being exposed to bear spray in an apartment complex on Friday night and a police officer was struck by a vehicle on Sunday.

“Five persons required transport to Medicine Hat Regional Hospital,” said S/Sgt. Stacey Kesler Medicine Hat Police Service.

It was quite a disruption to residents in the apartment complex located in the 700 block of 12 Street N.W., said Kesler. Charged with possession of a weapon (bear spray) and three counts of breach of probation is Jamie Snow, born 1991.

“This is not the first time he has done this,” said Kesler. “One condition of his probation is not to possess pepper spray or bear spray.”

On Sunday police had stopped a silver Ford F150 that had been stolen in Calgary.

“As the police officer was talking to the driver the vehicle was put in motion, struck the police officer, and left the area,” said Kesler. “The vehicle was later located by RCMP Redcliff and in that case the vehicle failed to stop for the RCMP.”

Kesler says the officer, that was struck by the vehicle, was not injured.

Later that same afternoon, around 5 p.m., an older white Chevrolet truck with an extended cab failed to stop for police.

“It was last seen in the area of Dunmore Road and Good Life Fitness,” said Kesler. “It had a stolen license plate on it.”

Kesler reports about 170 calls to Medicine Hat Police Service from Saturday morning at about 7 a.m. to midday Monday.

“That’s about 40 calls per 12-hour shift,” said Kesler.
