Farmers’ Markets start off strong

With summer-like temperatures hitting the Hat this month, it was only a matter of time before Farmers’ Market season began.

“It’s been a really great day,” said market co-ordinator Doreen Gunderson on Saturday. “It was great to see a big lineup before we were even open, so that was phenomenal.

“It really feels like we were missed, so it was good to open up for the year again.”

Entering the 21st year of operations, the Farmers’ Market events are aimed at helping local vendors connect with local consumers, and Gunderson says the markets will follow the same formulas are previous years.

“At this point we know what works for the people coming in, and what works for the vendors,” she said. “We don’t really do big, new things unless it’s something like the Canada 150 celebration we had last year.

“We just want to offer people what they like, and I think we’re doing that.”

In addition to the Saturday markets, the group will also be offering Wednesday evening markets at the Carriage House.

“We’re hoping the people who can’t make it out Saturdays can come Wednesday,” said Gunderson. “We’ll have the same vendors out on Wednesdays, the layout will all just be a little different.”

Saturday markets run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., while Wednesday markets run from 4-8 p.m.
