Veiner Centre close, focused on finishing touches

-

While it may look as though the project is close to completion there is still work to be done at the revamped Veiner Centre.

This includes flooring inside, furniture set-up, games room set-up, cleaning, fire alarm verification, commissioning of equipment, testing and balancing reports, fibre connection, audio/visual installation and staff training, said Scott Woodside, facilities project co-ordinator for the city.

Outside work still taking place includes asphalt, concrete curbs, irrigation, landscaping, line painting and general cleanup.

“We are looking forward to opening the Veiner Centre to the community once construction is complete and staff and operations have been able to transition into the space,” said Woodside. “We are confident all visitors to the centre will enjoy a comfortable, modern environment that continues to have the warm, friendly atmosphere of the original building.”

The Veiner Centre, a facility for seniors, was badly damaged during the flood of 2013, which rendered it unusable.

Graham Construction is the contractor for the $9.67-million project to remediate 1,400 square metres on the main floor of the old building with an extension of another 600 square metres.

The entire $11.6-million budget for this transformation was approved by council in February 2016 and included $1,325,770 for design/project management/testing and $400,000 for furnishings, fixtures and equipment.
