Oppressive taxation by city

-

As reported in the media, Medicine Hat city council is going to fatten up the Heritage Savings Account to become the second largest reserve account it has, while at the same time talking of increasing municipal taxes by seven per cent yearly?

Really? Do the numbers. A seven-per-cent yearly increase equates to doubling present day taxes through compounding in approximately 10 years. That sounds very unappealing to every local taxpayer that I have spoken to. Once in place, taxes never go down.

Plan B would have been a new utility fee that would generate $6.3 million per year. Likewise very unappealing.

You save money for future when you have extra money or spare money. The city has blown through $70 million from reserve funds since

Does bylaw ever check the filthy backyards? Not just alleys. I mean yards. Some of them are terrible.

That people are phoning in to complain about their utility bill charges. Everybody should look at their charges.

With our blue recycling bins.

With the gentleman who helped with the garage fire, pulling things out and helping to put the fire out. Without his quick response, it could have been a lot worse. If I ever find that gentleman — he was wearing a black shirt with “moving and storage” on it — I’d be glad to buy him dinner.

If you don’t yield to Trump’s demands, no matter how unreasonable, you will rot in hell. The gospel of Trump.

That our parks are stressed due to the rocket science down at the parks department. They didn’t start watering soon enough and now it’s costing to remove dead grass, fertilize and regrow the grass. Taxpayer dollars should be held to accountability.

2015. There is no extra money now for a Heritage Savings Account. Some of the programs that were added when the city was bringing in $90 million annually from the Energy Division are now simply no longer affordable. Some programs will have to be dropped starting now. Obviously this should have happened in 2015 instead of kicking the can down the road.

City council must learn to say “no.” Cut the fat or extras and let the chips fall where they may. There is a difference between what you want and what you really need.

The moral of the story: You can please some of the people some of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time.

Medicine Hat regular gas $1.249/litre. Winnipeg regular gas $1.149/litre. Thank you NDP!

Not a big shock that the lights from the memorial off the TCH were stolen. Pretty predictable unfortunately. Some people in this city just can’t leave nice things alone. Shame on you.

I wonder how many taxpayer dollars our MP spends sending out his propaganda pamphlets every month.

At the prices that our tradesmen and professional people charge for their services. Cost of living means nothing to them. They got it covered but the lowwage earner has to live in poverty.

If those crying women having abortions would instead focus on educating the male gender on the need for thoughtfulness and responsibility for their reproductive capacities. Women, alone, do not get pregnant!

No to both first past the post and proportional. How about ranked ballot like Australia? Much better and no fringe parties like they have in Europe.

I think it is tacky for well-todo people to buy their clothes at Value Village, driving the price up for people that are trying to start a new job or life and can’t afford much. Then they have the gall to sell them on Shopping Unlimited on Facebook.

By all of the volunteers that make Canada Day in Kin Coulee such a wonderful event. Thank you.
