Monarchs with clutch hits at Spokane tournament

-

The Medicine Hat Moose Monarchs went through the round robin with a 3-1 record at the Fourth of July Tournament in Spokane, thanks in part to a pair of lateinning rallies.

On Friday, Braydon Pudwell’s two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Medicine Hat a 6-5 win over the Hogden Distributing team.

Despite a 12-2 loss to the Expos 19-under squad later in the day, the Monarchs had an exciting 48 hours.

On Thursday morning the Monarchs scored three times in the bottom of the ninth to tie Northern Lakes 8-8. They had the winning run at third but couldn’t cash Jack Suhai in.

Suhai drove in four runs in Thursday night’s 14-9 win over the Prairie Phillies, including a three-run home run Dylan Koenig got the win by throwing 3 2/3 innings, while Wyatt Bergen went 3-for-3 with two runs scored.

Against Hogden, Medicine Hat fell behind 5-0 in the top of the first inning but got a lights-out relief appearance from Ashtyn Street, who threw 6 2/3 innings of four-hit, nowalk ball to earn the win. Suhai was 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, singling and scoring in a threerun sixth that set up the dramatic finish.

The other Hat team at the tournament, the Seminoles, lost their first three games. They were shut out 8-0 by the Shadle Park Shockers Thursday, then fell 10-2 to Hanford and 71 to Bellingham Friday.

Devon Schneider was 2-for3 against Bellingham. Peyton Cox was 2-for-3 with both runs against Hanford. Matt Rath doubled against Shadle Park, one of seven hits as the Seminoles stranded plenty of baserunners.
