The first two nights of the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede have been quiet.

“We saw a lot of people here last night and it was very full,” said Medicine Hat Police Service Sgt. Mike Fischer. “Even with a high volume, people for the most part were well behaved.

“We were talking to people at the beer gardens today and they said they had zero issues last night which is always fantastic to hear.”

The MHPS had four children reported missing Thursday, three of them had been signed up for the wrist band program and one did not — all were found and returned to their family.

“Everyone got reunited in the end and that’s what matters,” said Fischer. “We really want everyone to sign up for the program when they walk through the gates — it takes a couple minutes and can save a lot of stress.”

The MHPS did have to kick a number of teenagers off of the Stampede grounds for misbehaving.

“We gave out one ticket to a youth who was drinking last night and we escorted him off the property,” said Fischer. “We ejected three other youth for behaviour issues, but other than that it was a very good night.”

Fischer says the MHPS has a check stop planned and is encouraging Hatters to not drink and drive.

“There’s a lot of other options in the city now, so there’s never an excuse to get behind the wheel drunk,” he said. “Call a cab, have a designated driver or use some of the other services out there — just be smart about getting home.”
