Ringette: Under-16 side opens league season with pair of victories

-

With tournament and exhibition games under their belt, the Medicine Hat Mud Hens ringette team was well-prepared for the Calgary Ringette League season to begin.

Sure enough, the under-16 team won twice on the league’s opening weekend.

On Sunday in Medicine Hat, the Hens beat Cochrane 6-4, then 12-3 to sweep a doubleheader.

Between the two games, three players wound up totalling three goals. Ashlyn Seale, Allison Mason and Preslee Starner each had a trio, while Amanda Robinson, Dimitria Karamanos and Kylie Kallenberger added two each. Marley Rose, Serina Grona and Delany Mastel also lit the lamp in the great start to the league season.

Next up for the Mud Hens is a trip to Calgary this weekend. Their next home games are scheduled for Nov. 10.

Under-19

Medicine Hat’s under-19 team fell to 0-4 in league play, losing officially 8-1 to the under-16 AA Calgary Crew and 7-0 to the under-16 AA Impulse Sunday in Calgary. Games with score margins wider than seven goals are not recorded accurately on the league’s website.

Under-14

Medicine Hat’s under-14 team lost a pair of home games at the Kinplex Sunday to Swift Current’s Adrenaline team.

According to the Ringette Calgary website, scores were 84 and 6-2 for the visitors.

Under-12

Airdrie’s Sting overcame Medicine Hat’s Surge in a battle of under-12 teams Saturday.

In the Gas City, some great goaltending from Airdrie was credited in an 8-4 loss by the home side. Hayley Grad scored twice and both Kasey Martin and Mackenzie Tindall had one, but goals were hard to come by.

Medicine Hat’s Kyree Stern-Rebmann was up to the challenge in net for the second contest, but again the Sting wouldn’t let much pass. Jordy Jrovost had the Surge goal in a 4-1 loss.

The Surge are on the road in Rolling Hills for a tournament this weekend.

Under-10

At Strathmore Saturday, the under-10 Eliminators from Medicine Hat had some strong performances but couldn’t quite eke out a win.

In their first game, a 64 loss, Ravyn Lehr had two goals while Kensington Provost and Jordyn LeBlanc had singles.

The second game was an 8-3 loss, though Lehr, Sadie Cochrane, and Margo Kerr had goals for the Hat side. Cochrane, notably, played goal in the first game while it was Anika Rostotski-Ashton between the pipes in the second.

The Eliminators host Cochrae in a doubleheader starting at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Kinplex.
