Tigers earn single point in lone game of weekend
For the second weekend in a row there was only one game on the slate for the South East Athletic Club midget 15-yearold Tigers.
At Hockey Hounds Arena Saturday, the Tigers wound up with a 4-4 tie against the Calgary Rangers.
Ethan Machan’s power play goal with 3:46 remaining salvaged the single point, less than 30 seconds after the Rangers had taken the lead.
Callen Prosofsky, Hayden Prosofsky and Braden Houle had second-period goals for SEAC, which got 25 saves from Aidan Low in net.
The Tigers are on the road for two games this weekend.
Midget AA
A tough injury put a damper on the weekend for the midget AA Hounds.
Goalie Nate Hoffman went down midway through a 3-2 loss at Taber Saturday. Goals from Connor Miller and Levi Schlosser weren’t enough as Teron Funk tended the net in relief.
Medicine Hat had a much easier time Sunday in Calgary, beating the Blues 4-1.
Funk only saw 15 shots in the victory, while Schlosser scored twice. Ryley Manz and Jacob Milne had the other goals.
Bantam AA
The Lethbridge Hurricanes stopped Medicine Hat’s fourgame winning streak in bantam AA play Saturday.
At the Moose Recreation Centre, the visitors used a power play and a shorthanded goal in the first period en route to a 3-2 win.
Aiden Ma and Brady Mahar each had a goal and an assist, with Dawson Stewart getting a helper on each goal as well. Zach Ferguson made 27 saves in the Hat net.
Peewee girls
Medicine Hat’s peewee Wildcats girls team had no problem in Olds Saturday, defeating the home team 11-1.
Ryan Harvey-Zenk had three goals, while Brooks Johnson had a pair. Emmie Baugh, Riley Gramich, Taya Christie, Katie Kuipers, Keyana Bert and Traeh Hall had the other goals.
Peewee AA
The peewee AA Hounds are now unbeaten in 11 games after a busy three-win weekend.
Starting Friday with a 4-2 road win over Lethbridge Red, the Hounds then beat Okotoks Black Saturday, then came home to earn a 7-2 win over Lethbridge White on Sunday.
Peewee Tier 1
The peewee Tier 1 Hounds beat Strathmore 4-2 Saturday, plus they raised $340 for unidentified men’s health initiatives with moustacheshaped cookie sales during the game.
Novice
A handful of novice-level teams from Medicine Hat have taken part in various tourna- ments during the first part of the minor hockey season.
The Major Rangers went undefeated in Redcliff Nov. 911, outscoring their opposition a combined 65-13 according to Karl Schwonik.
Lucas Fisher, Cooper Craven and Jack Cullen led the attack while Gibson Studer (defence) held steady in front of goalie and tournament MVP Olivier Charbonneau.
Meanwhile in Strathmore, the Northstars got to an A final against Taber, losing 4-2.
Flyers and Bruins teams also got into tournaments on the same weekend. Novice players are in a new Hockey Canada model this year focused on separating by age rather than by skill, and getting more puck time by using half-ice sheets.
