More traffic at weekend market during postal strike
Thousands passed through the annual Something for Everyone Christmas Market, held this year at the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede.
“It’s been a great year for us,” said market operator Monica Kallis. “We had our busiest market ever in September but this weekend’s market will be our busiest ever for sure.
“Our record was 2,600 people in one day but we’re only a few hours in here and are going to top that for sure.”
The Something for Everyone Markets are always free and feature a large number of vendors selling items of every variety. Kallis says the mail strike has been encouraging people to support local businesses.
“The mail strike helps our numbers and encourages people to shop local here in Medicine Hat,” she said. “People just aren’t doing online shopping as much right now so they’re coming out to things like this and picking the items out themselves.
“We have so many great vendors here and the money is going to support them and it all stays local.”
The event ran Saturday and Sunday and featured more than 140 vendors, which is in line with previous Christmas markets, says Kallis.
The markets concluded their seventh year operating in the city and Kallis says she will continue to host them as long as the demand is there and the vendors will take part.
