Third COVID-19 death reported

Alberta now up to 661 cases, 73 have recovered

A third Albertan has died as a result of COVID-19.

The province announced Sunday that it had identified 40 new cases of the virus, bringing the total to 661. The province also announced that there are 73 total recovery cases to date.

The Calgary zone makes up 408 of the confirmed cases, while the Edmonton zone sits at 149. The Central zone has 46 cases and the North zone has one fewer. The South zone still has 12 cases, with Medicine Hat with five confirmed. One cases is in an undetermined zone.

Of the cases, there have been 41 hospitalizations, 14 of which were admitted to intensive care. Up to 60 of the 661 cases may be due to community transmission.

The McKenzie Towne Long Term Care home has 11 new cases, bringing the total to 26.

There are no reported changes for Rosedale on the Park and Shepherd’s Care Kensington Village. They sit at one and four cases respectively.

The age group with the most cases is 35-44 year old men and women. Of the total cases, 52 per cent are men and 62 per cent are in the Calgary zone.

The government announced 79 new cases Saturday and is reminding people that gatherings of more than 15 people are prohibited.

The government is also reminding people that vehicle access to provincial parks and parking lots on public land has been suspended to help reduce the spread of the virus.
