Sask­Tel to build cell tow­ers in south­west

Sask­Tel will erect sev­eral more cell­phone tow­ers in south­west Saskatchew­an next year, it an­nounced Wed­nes­day as part of a $70-mil­lion im­prove­ment in cov­er­age that in­volves 74 new tow­ers.

Shau­navon and Fort Walsh are two lo­ca­tions of note on the list that also in­cludes Sim­mie (near Gull Lake), and Burn­ham and Main Cen­tre (near Swift Cur­rent).

The Crown tele­phone com­pany con­sid­ers the 72 lo­ca­tions listed for the prov­ince as un­der­served ru­ral ar­eas that fall un­der a 2017 pro­gram to im­prove wire­less cov­er­age.

Macro-tow­ers will be built by the sum­mer of 2021.

The cur­rent phase closes the pro­gram that will spend a to­tal of $104 mil­lion to see 300 tow­ers added over four years.
