The Red Shoes

6 p.m. on One of the most visually beautiful films ever made, this 1948 drama stars Scottish-born ballerina Moira Shearer as a dancer torn between her art and her new love: the composer of a ballet based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale “The Red Shoes.” That’s the one about the girl whose magic shoes force her to dance until she drops dead. Nothing good can come of that, but the movie’s centerpiece — the ballet itself — is a knockout.
