Liberation of Netherlands ceremony a go

-

Though delayed by the pandemic, the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands will be held this coming week.

Each year, the local Dutch community has planned special event to honour Canadian troops that pushed German forces out of the Netherlands on May 5, 1945.

On Monday, the public is invited to observe proper health protocols at an outdoor event at Riverside Veterans Memorial Park beginning at 10: 30 a.m. Following that event a service of thanksgiving will take place at the Christian Reformed Church on Primrose Drive.

Presentations will be made to the Medicine Hat, Redcliff and Bow Island branches of the Royal Canadian Legion, as well as the South Alberta Light Horse regiment.

Honorary Consul of the Netherlands Irene Bakker will be present.
