A recreation co-ordinator at a seniors’ residence says what residents have missed most during the pandemic is the music concerts often provided by local artists and volunteers.

Kay Guest, recreation coordinator for Meadow Ridge Seniors Village, decided to find a solution and contacted Sakamoto Agency about organizing virtual entertainment.

Sakamoto Agency decided to offer virtual concerts to 100 seniors’ residences across the country with the goal of delivering joy during the otherwise restricted living of COVID-19.

With the support of Sakamoto Agency’s award-winning roster of artists and other emerging and established Canadian artists, Concert Connections will bring together and entertain those who are unable to enjoy family visits or larger gatherings within their community, said Guest. For the artists, it’s an opportunity to play for an audience, to give back to their communities and hone their craft.

There are several ways for seniors’ residences to participate.

You can choose a live or pre-recorded introduction from the featured artist with personal greetings and then a pre-recorded concert. This can be accessed via Zoom, Skype or FaceTime. Another option includes a video that is specifically tailored to the audience and this can be broadcast before the concert. There is also the possibility of even the concert being live.

Sakamoto Agency will accept donations to be distributed to the artist for each performance.

Guest points out that many artists have also experienced a disruption to performances as a result of COVID and can identify with what seniors are enduring.

Live music is not only enjoyable but has proven therapeutic benefits for the audience and performer, said Guest.

Sakamoto Agency’s operating partner, Paul Biro, is willing to do supportive performances at a moment’s notice.

If you would like to arrange a virtual concert at a seniors’ residence that you are connected with, additional information is available online or by email. www.sakamotoagency.com info@sakamotoagency.com
